Università di Napoli Federico II (UNINA) is one of the largest and the third oldest university in Italy. It is heavily involved in promoting both international research and technological transfer to industry. The university has 3,100 professors, 87 departments, dozens of research laboratories, and is involved in broad collaboration networks with foreign universities, research centres, and private companies. Many entrepreneurs in top positions around the country were students of the university. Rich resources are available to its 100,000+ students, allowing them to acquire varied and complete professional profiles in the 166 degree courses taught in its 13 schools. Offering high quality instruction and great cultural variety is the main strong point of UNINA.

UNINA Dipartimento di Informatica e Sistemistica (DIS)/PRISMA Group. DIS is one of the most active departments within the Division of Science and Technology of UNINA and has a sound record of promotion of international research projects and collaboration with national industries and IT companies. The PRISMA Lab (http://www.prisma.unina.it) was established within DIS in the late '80s and is currently headed by Prof. Bruno Siciliano. The PRISMA Group is a Joint Research Unit which links about 20 faculties and researchers from six twin teams: DIS at Università di Napoli Federico II, DIFA at Università della Basilicata, DAEIMI at Università di Cassino, DII at Seconda Università di Napoli, DIA at Università di Roma Tre, and DIEII at Università di Salerno. The PRISMA Group has established research experience in coordinated control of robot manipulators, force/position control, visual servoing, hardware/software control architectures for multi-robot systems, underwater and aerial robotics, mobile robots, and supervisory control, as evidenced by the participation in several research projects, e.g. the ongoing projects AIRobots, Co3AUVs, DEXMART, ECHORD and euRobotics, all funded by the European Union in the 7th Framework Programme. Several experimental set-ups are available in the labs of the PRISMA Group, including three COMAU industrial robots with open control architecture, an automatic warehouse, several mobile robots, force sensors and vision systems. The scientific profile of the group is well known within the international robotics community, as evidenced by collaboration with 30 foreign institutions, and publication of 25 books, 160 journal papers and 500 conference papers and book chapters. The group has also been engaged in a number of cooperation projects with robotics industries and companies using robotics and automation technology.

The PRISMA Group partners which collaborate within ECHORD are:

Bruno Siciliano is Professor of Control and Robotics, and Director of the PRISMA Lab in the Department of Computer and Systems Engineering at University of Naples Federico II. His research interests include force and visual control, human-robot interaction and service robotics. He has coauthored 7 books, 70 journal papers, 170 conference papers and book chapters. He has delivered 80 invited lectures and seminars at institutions worldwide, and he has been the recipient of several awards. He is a Fellow of IEEE, ASME and IFAC. He is Co-Editor of the Springer Tracts in Advanced Robotics, and of the Springer Handbook of Robotics, which received the PROSE Award for Excellence in Physical Sciences & Mathematics and was also the winner in the category Engineering & Technology. His group is currently involved in four FP7 European projects. Professor Siciliano is the Past-President of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society.
